Essential Oils for Cold Symptom Relief

Tea Tree Oil

Dry winter air dries out our nasal passages and makes us more susceptible to viruses, so fight back by running a humidifier regularly, (but make sure to keep it clean so you aren’t just spreading mold and bacteria around the house). If you want to try adding some essential oils to the water in the humidifier, there are many that have been shown to help ease cold and flu symptoms. Here are just a few that are great at relieving stuffy noses and chest congestion:

  • tea tree oil
  • eucalyptus oil
  • peppermint oil
  • sandalwood oil
  • cedarwood oil
  • rosemary oil (not recommended for use during pregnancy)
  • frankincense oil
  • hyssop oil

For more information on blending and uses, here’s a nice website that specifically talks about aromatherapy for kids: http://www.lovingscents.com/childaromatherapy.htm
